Unifying Characteristics:
  • Plants are photosynthetic autotrophs, which means they produce their own food from sunlight.
  • They contain chloroplasts with chlorophyll.
  • They have cell walls containing cellulose.
  • They are stationary.
  • Produce oxygen.

Plant Kingdom Careers:
  • If you love to watch plants grow and see them develop, you could become a gardner. A gardner tends and cares for plants to help them survive and stay beautiful. In order to become a gardner, you must know between different types of plants the environments they better survive in as in: type of soil, amount of sunlight, and amount of water.
  • If you like to research plants and observe them, you could be a botanist. Botanist study the behavior and characteristics of plants and work to make new kinds of plants. They are constantly trying to find new plant variations and more effective ways to help plants survive from bugs. Being a botanist does take a lot of work, but if you enjoy it, the time flies.

  • Chloroplast: (in green plant cells) A plastid that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.
  • Peptidoglycan: is a polymer consisting of sugars and amino acids that forms a mesh-like layer outside the plasma
  • Chitin: A fibrous substance consisting of polysaccharides and forming the major constituent in the exoskeleton of arthropods and the cell walls

Heterotroph or Autotroph?

  • Any species from the Kingdom Plantae is indeed a Autotroph meaning that they can create their own source of energy on which to function off of.

3 Species from the Kingdom Plantae

  • Tulipa Sp. (Tulip)

  • Solanum Lycopersicum (Garden Tomato)

  • Anemone Virginiana (Thimbleweed)
